Oil Maintenance

Kia Owners Who Might Be Facing Oil Consumption Issues Should Be Aware of the Following Process

Kia Motors America implements a comprehensive, multi-step procedure (consisting of at least three visits) to verify the presence of oil consumption problems. Please note, however, that not all vehicles are eligible for warranty coverage. Kia Motors America has established specific parameters that must be adhered to when verifying oil consumption. Warranty coverage for oil consumption issues is typically limited to a period of 10 years or 100,000 miles for the original owners. Meanwhile, customers who have purchased a pre-owned or certified pre-owned Kia may be covered for oil consumption issues up to five years from the warranty start date or for 60,000 miles.

Step 1: Repairing the Leak
Step 2: Verify Maintenance Records
Step 3: Schedule Your Check In

Step 1: Repairing the Leak

Step 1 involves checking, cleaning, and repairing any oil leaks. The oil level will be checked and topped off, and a tamper-evident seal will be applied. After this step, the customer is expected to return after driving 1,000 miles.

Step 2: Verify Maintenance Records

Step 2 will verify maintenance records once the customer returns after the initial 1,000 miles. If the maintenance records adhere to Kia's required intervals, the dealership will proceed with the oil consumption check. However, if the records do not align with Kia's prescribed maintenance interval, the process is halted. Kia's permissible oil consumption is 1 quart within these 1,000 miles. If the vehicle has consumed less than this, the process is deemed complete. However, if the vehicle has consumed more than 1 quart, a top engine cleaning will be performed and the vehicle will be kept at the dealership for at least 24 hours. Following this, the customer will be asked to return after driving another 1,000 miles for an oil level check.

Step 3: Schedule Your Check In

Step 3 is necessary once the customer has driven 1,000 miles since Step 2 was completed. The customer must return to have the vehicle's oil level inspected and to determine the quantity of oil consumed, if any. If the oil consumption is greater than 1 quart, a case will need to be opened with Kia to authorize a repair. Conversely, if the oil consumption is less than 1 quart, the process is deemed complete and no further action is required.

Should Kia determine your eligibility for an engine replacement, it must be performed at the dealership that conducted the oil consumption confirmation process. Attempting to switch dealerships will necessitate restarting the process. In certain situations, it may be quicker to initiate the process anew at Willowbrook Kia.
